The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an English Language Proficiency Test designed to assess the language skills of prospective students to study abroad. The primary purpose of the IELTS test is to measure the English Language competency of the students in four basic skills i.e., Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

Introduced in the year 1989, the IELTS test has built its reputation, and over 10,000 colleges, agencies, and other institutions in over 140 countries use IELTS scores as a basis for English Language Testing.

As mentioned on the IELTS website, the number of IELTS tests taken grew to 3.5 million in the span of just one year. This number itself speaks volumes about the importance of the test. The examination is recognized as an entrance test for language proficiency to study at universities located in English-speaking countries.

In this blog, we are going to discuss various aspects of the IELTS test, right from its paper pattern, preparation strategy to ideal scores, and much more. But let us first know which countries accept the IELTS score.

  • Listening: Students are required to listen to the recordings of the native English speakers and then write their answers based on the same. In this section, the number of questions is 40 and the time allotted is of 30 minutes.

The IELTS examination is not that difficult however the questions asked in the examination can be tricky. Hence, it is advisable to appear for mock tests.

The IELTS scores are calculated on a scale from 1 to 9 and students get a band score for each aforesaid skill.
