The primary purpose of the IELTS test is to measure the English Language competency of the students in four basic skills i.e., Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

As mentioned on the IELTS website, the number of IELTS tests taken grew to 3.5 million in the span of just one year. This number itself speaks volumes about the importance of the test. The examination is recognized as an entrance test for language proficiency to study at universities located in English-speaking countries.
