IELTS

Every university has a different score requirement for a specific field and level of study, but generally, you must target a 6.5 – 7.0 band score. IELTS is conducted in 800+ centres, and the fee for applying is around Rs. 15,500. The scores of this exam are acceptable for 2 years from the examination date. The IELTS Exam structure consists of 4 components: speaking, listening, writing, and reading to be completed in 2 hours and 45 minutes.

TOEFL

Test of English as a Foreign Language or TOEFL is a popular English language proficiency exam of 120 marks. There are 4 sections, similar to IELTS, with 30 marks for each section. The exam fee is around US $190, which varies depending on the test location. In India, there are 4,500+ test centres and applicants can take the exam online or offline. A 90 score in TOEFL-iBT is generally needed if you are seeking admission to Australian institutions. A total score of 100-110 will ensure that you are accepted at an institution of your choice.

PTE

Pearson Test of English, commonly called PTE, is a computer-based exam, and its duration is 3 hours. Similar to the exams mentioned before, there are 4 papers to test your skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. It is a 90 points test and an overall score of 72 or above is considered satisfactory, whereas scores between 74-84 are considered competitive for admissions and the score is valid for up to 2 years. Applicants must create an account on the official PTE account and pay a registration fee of Rs. 14,700.

CAE

The University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations offers the Cambridge Advanced English test (CAE). Students applying for undergraduate programmes may take the exam. The test results are only valid for two years, you can take the test on paper or a computer at a nearby testing centre. Like most other exams, this one includes 4 sections, to be completed in 4 hours. In India, applicants are charged INR 6,000 for registration. The score of the CAE exam is published in the form of grades. If you score between 60-79, you will receive a C1 certificate considered fairly good, and scores above 80 are considered outstanding and are C2 level.

GMAT

GMAT stands for Graduate Management Admission Test which again has four sections - analytical writing, integrated, quantitative and verbal reasoning. Applicants have 3 hours and a few minutes to complete the test. The integrated reasoning and analytical writing sections must be finished within an hour; 30 minutes for each. A score above 600 is believed to be a good GMAT score.

SAT

The Scholastic Aptitude Test or SAT is assessed for several streams of education, including arts, management and commerce. There are two main sections including evidence-based reading and writing as well as mathematics. The essay section is optional and you must check if the university you want to apply to requires you to submit the essay score. A 1200 score in this exam is considered good but some Australian universities set the bar as high as 1500 points. Your SAT results are acceptable for admission for five years from the exam's date.
