India has the world’s largest youth population, and it is expected to grow even further in the coming years. That alone explains why India has long been one of the biggest sources of international students abroad. But as governments across the world began placing caps on international student enrolments and tightening visa policies, the Indian government took a different route.
The idea of inviting Foreign Universities to establish their branch campuses in India came up with the thought of providing international education exposure to Indians within the country itself. This would also help curtail the brain drain from the country. Indian academic regulatory frameworks like the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) internationalisation guidelines have created clearer and more structured pathways for foreign universities to establish a local presence in India.
