The UK and India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 21st of July 2022. This MoU will officially recognise both the country’s higher education qualifications and attract international students to the UK. This Memorandum of Understanding is a part of the UK-India Enhanced Trade Partnership (ETP) that was agreed by the UK Prime Minister Mr. Boris Johnson and the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi in May 2021.
From the date of signing the MoU, UK degrees will be recognised and be eligible for employment in India. That makes the A- levels and the corresponding undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, a recognised degree for job seekers with a UK degree. The UK degree holders will be eligible for employment all over India. The best part is that their UK degrees will allow them to qualify government jobs in India as well.
The Universities in UK are amongst the most preferred Universities for students of India who wish to study abroad. This is quite evident from the fact that 84,555 Indian students moved to the UK for higher studies in 2020-2021. The MoU will allow Indian students who completed their graduation from UK universities to pursue their Post – Graduation from India.
It is noteworthy that the Turing Scheme international education programme has made India a popular country choice for students of UK. “It creates more opportunities for UK students to study in India and paves the way for our world-beating universities to deliver more degree programmes in one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic nations on earth.” Quoted by James Cleverly, Secretary of State for Education.
This MoU aims to enhance mutual academic cooperation relating to higher education in the UK and India. Both the countries are quite delighted with this new agreement as it will open new avenues for students and will prove to be quite beneficial.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan, International Trade Secretary of the UK quoted “Now, we are delighted to deliver on our promise to unblock barriers to trade between our two nations and make UK higher education even easier to access and more appealing to Indian students.”
This agreement will also increase the economy generated from Indian students who come to the UK to pursue their higher education. A non-EU student that moves to the UK is estimated to contribute around £109,000 per person to the UK economy.
This landmark agreement has further encouraged the Study in UK for international students, especially for students of India. The efforts of both countries will not only widen the scope of education across the UK and India, but it will also open new academic and career choices.
