The number of Indian students who studied abroad in the US increased by 19% in the academic year 2021–22, as more than 2 lakh students went there for higher education, according to data released on Monday, November 14.

What's even more intriguing is that over 21% of the more than a million students studying in the US are Indians, according to the Open Doors report published by the Institute of International Education (IIE). According to the report, a record number of Indian students travelled to the United States to study for the second year in a row.

The reports are quite reliable and the stats are authentic as the Institute of International Education’s foundation in collaboration with the US Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has conducted an annual statistical survey on international students pursuing higher education in the US.

Additionally, Open Doors provides statistics on the number of international students participating in pre-academic English-intensive programs and foreign scholars attending US colleges.

“Congratulation to India for leading the world in the percentage of students choosing the US” stated the Minister Counsellor for Public Diplomacy at the US Embassy.

“It's evident that Indian students and their parents understand the value of a US education, one that equips them to use their newly acquired knowledge to address global challenges and prepares them for future opportunities, whether those opportunities are in artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, or entrepreneurship, and innovation”, she continued.

According to a statement from the Embassy, the US Department of State is providing free advising services to prospective Indian students at eight "EducationUSA" advising centres in New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and two in Hyderabad in response to the rise in Indian students choosing to pursue their education in the US.

All the centres, according to the statement, are staffed by Education USA advisors who provide accurate, thorough, and current information about opportunities to study in the US. They assist Indian students in selecting the most appropriate programs from among the 4,000 accredited US higher education institutions.

The US higher education system is acclaimed to be the best in the world, attracting not just Indian Students but many international students each year. This is the crucial reason why most Indian Students are making this decision. The USA has the most significant concentration of top-tier institutions and routinely has some of the best universities in the world.
