A series of updates for foreign nationals have been released by the German government. Let’s find out more about these updates ahead. This surely is a must-read for every study abroad aspirant planning to study in Germany.

New Citizenship Law

Germany's government has brought new citizenship laws for foreign nationals living in the country. Under facilitated rules and procedures citizenship will be provided after the required period of residence is completed. The best part is that this period of residence is now shortened from 8 years to 5 years. Furthermore, if the applicant possesses an advanced level of German language skills, they will be eligible to obtain citizenship after 3 years as it proves a high level of integration in Germany.

Apart from this, children born in Germany will be granted citizenship if one of the parents has been living here for 5 years. Dual and multiple citizenships will also be allowed under this law.

Work Visas Issued in 2022

Germany had issued 1,52,336 work visas in total. Out of these, the highest number of visas issued were for Indians. With a massive number of 17,379, India became the major source country last year. Turkish nationals were on the second spot and Serbs on the third.

Digital Scholarships

To facilitate higher education, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is launching 30 digital scholarships for students. This newly introduced scholarship will be applicable to master’s degree students who can’t pursue higher education because of health concerns, family commitments, etc. This scholarship program is open to all students, irrespective of their country of origin.

Nursing Studies Strengthening Act

The government has introduced this act to encourage students to pursue their careers in nursing. For nurses with degrees from foreign institutions, this new legislation will make their professional transition in Germany easier. With this Act, comprehensive equivalence examinations will be replaced with knowledge assessments or adaption courses.
