Dubai’s higher education sector is witnessing a significant demographic shift as Indian students now comprise 42% of the total international student population, as per the latest 2024–25 data from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). This growing preference indicates a strong turn toward Dubai as a viable and attractive study destination, surpassing countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia in many aspects.

The data shows a clear academic inclination among Indian students, with 54% enrolling in Business Programmes, followed by 11% each in IT and Engineering, reflecting their focus on Career-Oriented, Industry-Relevant Degrees.

Why Rising Demand for Business, Tech & Emerging Fields?

The KHDA report underlines a strong demand for Business and Technology Programmes. Dubai’s booming sectors, Fintech, Tourism, AI, and Sustainable Architecture, align with student interests in future-ready careers. Institutions are now introducing specialised programmes such as AI & Ethics, Cybersecurity, Sustainable Engineering, and Biomedical Sciences to meet evolving student and market demands.

Additionally, Universities like Heriot-Watt, Middlesex University Dubai, and the University of Birmingham Dubai are offering quality education backed by global curricula at more affordable rates compared to their Western counterparts. Dubai also hosts branch campuses of leading Indian institutions like BITS Pilani, Amity, and Manipal, offering the advantage of Indian education blended with global exposure.

Other Factors Why Indian Students are Choosing Dubai

Multiple factors are contributing to this sharp increase in Indian students' enrolments in Dubai for higher education abroad:

Affordable Tuition Fees and Lower Cost of Living compared to Western Countries
English-Medium Instruction and World-Class Curricula
Opportunities for Internships and Employment during and after the study period
Fast-tracked Visa Processes, Student Safety, and Supportive Ecosystems
Cultural Familiarity Combined with Global Exposure

Furthermore, data from KHDA reveals that 29% of faculty members in Dubai’s licensed higher education institutions are of Indian origin, the highest among all nationalities. This strong representation contributes to a greater sense of academic continuity and comfort for Indian students adapting to a new educational environment.

Student-Centric Ecosystem & Career Support

A defining feature of Dubai, a sought-after study destination, is its comprehensive student support system. From Merit-Based Scholarships and Guaranteed Accommodation to Structured Career Services and Internship Opportunities, Universities in Dubai are actively supporting students.
