<figure class="table"><table><tbody><tr><td style="background-color:#DBE8FF;padding:8px;">Key Highlights<ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) introduces Longer Post-Study Work Visas for Indian Students.</li><li>Honours Degree holders can get up to a 3-Year Post Study Work Visa, while STEM and Postgraduate Graduates may receive up to 4 Years.</li><li>No Numerical Caps on Student Mobility &amp; Part-Time Work Permit under the New Agreement.</li><li>Nearly 5,000 Indian Professionals will also benefit from the New Work Visa Pathways.</li></ul></td></tr></tbody></table></figure>Great News for Indian Students planning to study in New Zealand!&nbsp;India and New Zealand have concluded a landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that significantly enhances post-study work opportunities for Indian students choosing New Zealand as their study abroad destination.&nbsp;The agreement introduces an extended duration of <a href="https://www.studies-overseas.com/blogs/post-study-work-visa-in-new-zealand" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Post-Study Visa in New Zealand</a>, Improved Mobility Provisions, and greater clarity around Student Employment Rights, making the country a more attractive option for Indian learners.Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal confirmed that the FTA includes a dedicated annexure on student mobility and post-study work visas, signed by New Zealand for the first time with any country.&nbsp;This move reflects a growing emphasis on education, skill development, and people-to-people mobility between the two nations.&nbsp;<h2>Extended Post-Study Work Visas in New Zealand&nbsp;Based on Study Level&nbsp;</h2>Under the new FTA framework, Indian students graduating from Institutions in New Zealand will be eligible for longer Post-Study Work Visas depending on their qualification level.<ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li style="text-align:justify;">Students completing a standard degree programme will be eligible for a Two-Year Work Visa.</li><li style="text-align:justify;">Those graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours will be entitled to a Three-Year Work Visa.&nbsp;</li><li style="text-align:justify;">Graduates from STEM Disciplines, as well as those completing Postgraduate Programmes, will be eligible for up to Four Years of Post-Study Work Rights.</li></ul>These changes are expected to provide Indian students with greater career stability and international work exposure after completing their studies.&nbsp;<h2>No Cap on Student Mobility &amp; Work Rights Secured in New Zealand&nbsp;</h2>A key highlight of the agreement is the removal of numerical caps on student mobility. The FTA locks in existing student work rights, allowing Indian students to work up to 25 hours per week during academic sessions, along with full-time work during scheduled breaks.&nbsp;This clarity and assurance around work permissions are expected to boost confidence among Indian students planning to <a href="https://www.studies-overseas.com/country/study-in-new-zealand" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">study in New Zealand</a> over the coming years.&nbsp;<h2>New Pathways for Skilled Indian Professionals in New Zealand&nbsp;</h2>Beyond students, the FTA also opens new mobility pathways for Indian professionals. Around 5,000 professionals, including Yoga Instructors, Chefs, AYUSH Practitioners, Nurses, Teachers, and Caregivers, will be eligible for Professional Work Visas under a newly introduced Temporary Employment Entry Visa Pathway.These visas will allow stays of up to three years and will operate alongside existing New Zealand Work Visa categories, expanding, not replacing, current options available to Indian nationals.With these positive developments, the India–New Zealand FTA further strengthens New Zealand’s position as a long-term study abroad destination for Indian students.
