Initially proposed hike which would have raised the income threshold from £29,000 to £38,700 (around ₹41.5 lakhs), was originally set to come into effect by 2025. However, Mrs. Yvette Cooper - Secretary of State for the Home Department under new Prime Minister - Mr. Keir Starmer has opted to maintain the current limit of £29,000 (around ₹31.2 lakhs) until a review by the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) is completed.&nbsp; &nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:justify;">What does this mean for Indian Students?</h2>With over 5,248 visas granted in 2023; the Indians are among the largest groups applying for family visas. The decision to pause the increase helps Indian nationals living on <a href="https://www.studies-overseas.com/blogs/uk-student-visa" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">UK Student visa</a> to bring family members to the UK. The current threshold of £29,000 allows more families to reunite without the added pressure of meeting higher income requirements. &nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:justify;">New Labour Approach to Immigration</h2>The UK Home Secretary Mr. Yvette Cooper also announced that the Labour government will take a fresh approach to immigration. Rather than raising income thresholds, he said that the focus will shift towards increasing the skills in the workforce.
