Overview

Lakehead University has its origins in the Lakehead Technical Institute (LTI) which was founded in 1946. The Lakehead College of Arts, Science, and Technology then evolved from LTI in 1956. The University then acquired the degree-granting status in 1965. This Public Research University operates primarily from its main campus in Thunder Bay, Ontario, with an additional campus in Orillia. The Thunder Bay campus, situated on 32 hectares, offers a picturesque and conducive environment for academic pursuits. Lakehead University enrolls more than 8,500 students each year, including about 1,900 international students from over 80 countries.
 

The University's motto, "Ad Augusta Per Angusta," translates to "Achievement through Effort," reflecting its commitment to fostering resilience and dedication among its students.
