Many students begin with a diploma program at NAIT and later complete their degree at a partner university. Yes. Some programs at NAIT include co-op or internship terms that can be completed across Canada or even internationally. Previous students have gained valuable experience in countries like the U.S., the UK, and Australia, as well as in offshore industry locations, through NAIT’s professional partnerships.

2. Are work-integrated learning opportunities available outside Alberta?

They do. Through initiatives such as capstone projects, co-ops, and innovation challenges sponsored by industry, students frequently engage in solving real-world business problems. These experiences not only develop practical skills but sometimes lead directly to employment offers from the companies involved.

3. Do NAIT students get to work on real industry projects?

Yes. NAIT offers specialized training in augmented and virtual reality through its Digital Media and IT programs. Within the Animation or Game Design stream, students use tools like Unity and Unreal Engine to build immersive experiences for gaming, training, and simulation.

4. Can students learn AR/VR design at NAIT?

NAIT is conveniently located along Edmonton’s public transit routes. It is directly connected via the Metro Line through the NAIT LRT Station, offering fast access to the downtown area. At the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), intakes are divided into two categories: major and minor. The major intake offers the widest selection of programs and opportunities, while minor intakes provide a limited but still valuable set of options. Students should always align their intake choice with their preferred program and level of study.

The primary intake at NAIT occurs in September, featuring the most comprehensive selection of courses. This intake covers a broad range of Postgraduate Diploma, Undergraduate Degree, and Undergraduate Diploma programs, making it ideal for students seeking maximum flexibility and program availability.

NAIT’s minor intakes take place in January and May. The January intake includes several Postgraduate Diploma, Undergraduate Degree, and Undergraduate Diploma programs. Meanwhile, the May intake is more limited, offering only selected Undergraduate and Undergraduate Diploma courses.

Founded in 1962, the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) is located just north of Edmonton’s downtown and is conveniently connected by the Metro Line of the city’s Light Rail Transit.
