The Northern College Cost varies depending on the chosen program and study level. In addition to tuition, students are required to pay an Ancillary Fee, which covers Student Associations, Athletic Facilities, and Health Benefits. Ancillary Fees are typically paid in full during the first semester of the academic year. Life at Northern College, Canada 

Northern College collaborates with the Canadian Mining Innovation Council and local mining companies to prepare students for Ontario’s expanding lithium, gold, and cobalt sectors. This partnership provides Timmins students with priority access to high-paying co-ops, internships, and employment opportunities that are not available at other southern Ontario colleges.

1. What is Northern College’s role in Canada’s critical minerals and mining boom?

Timmins is known as the ‘City with a Heart of Gold’ because of its mining history and is one of Ontario’s most affordable cities. It combines a safe, small-town atmosphere with urban amenities and is home to over 50 lakes and numerous nature trails suitable for hiking, skiing, and kayaking.

2. What makes Timmins one of the best hidden-gem cities for international students?

Timmins Transit operates city-wide routes, including South Porcupine and the Timmins Transit Terminal. Due to construction, buses temporarily stop near the East End Family Health Team’s west entrance. Modern transit features include on-demand microtransit services, smartphone-based payment, and improved coverage in low-density areas.

3. What local transit options are available for students?

Winters in Timmins are long and snowy, with temperatures often dropping below –20°C. Students are advised to wear thermal layers, snow boots, and insulated jackets, use moisturizers and lip balm to prevent dryness, check the Timmins Snow Plow Tracker for cleared roads, and use block-heater plugs in vehicles to prevent battery freeze.

4. How extreme are winters in Timmins, and how can students adapt?

Northern College provides a Buddy Program pairing international students with senior students. Weekly community potluck dinners allow sharing of traditional foods, while the Timmins Multicultural Centre supports newcomers in adjusting to Canadian life.

5. How do students handle homesickness and cultural adjustment?

Northen College Intakes include Major and Minor options. Students are advised to select an intake carefully according to their chosen program.

The September intake is considered the Major Intake, during which all programs at both Postgraduate and Undergraduate levels are available.

The January intake is considered the Minor Intake, offering a limited number of programs at both Postgraduate and Undergraduate levels.

Northern College 

Northern College was established in 1967, with the Timmins Campus serving as both a center of learning and community engagement. The College focuses on innovative and engaging teaching methods, ensuring students gain practical skills alongside academic knowledge. It operates four campuses across Northeastern Ontario: Timmins, Haileybury, Kirkland Lake, and Moosonee. Its post-secondary programs prepare learners for careers in Business and Office Administration, Community Services, Engineering Technology and Trades, Health Sciences and Emergency Services, Veterinary Sciences, and Welding Engineering Technology, equipping students with the skills required to succeed in their chosen professions. &nbsp;The Institutional Research Department at Northern College conducts research and prepares reports to support operations and guide strategic decision-making. Additionally, the Department of Applied Research, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation (AREI) manages the Innovation Hub, which focuses on developing innovative products, processes, and service prototypes. Northern College Scholarship opportunities are available to all students, including international applicants. These scholarships support eligible students across a wide range of programs. For international students, specific entrance scholarships are available for selected programs. More than 65 scholarships are awarded to eligible applicants admitted to Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Trades Technology (EETT) programs. Additionally, over 50 scholarships under this category are granted to eligible applicants in programs outside of EETT.&nbsp;
