Overview

Established in 1948 as the Ryerson Institute of Technology, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) has evolved into a prominent Public Research University in Toronto, Canada. The University underwent significant conversions by becoming Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1966, Ryerson Polytechnic University in 1993, and adopting the name Toronto Metropolitan University in 2022. TMU's urban campus is strategically located in the Garden District of Toronto, Canada's largest city. It provides access to the city's vibrant cultural, professional, and social opportunities.

 

As of the latest academic year, TMU enrolled approximately 48,000 Undergraduate and Graduate students. Intakes

Toronto Metropolitan University has a well-coordinated admissions structure with multiple intakes throughout the academic year. The Toronto Metropolitan University intakes operate on a three-term system with the Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer sessions.

Commencing in September, the Fall term serves as TMU's primary intake period. This intake includes a comprehensive selection of Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs. The application deadline is around February of the same year.

In addition to the primary Fall intake, TMU provides two minor intakes during the Winter (January) and Spring/Summer (May) terms, for students to commence their studies at different points in the academic year. With comparatively limited courses, the January intakes still have approximately 45 Undergraduate programs and a few Postgraduate programs. No Undergraduate programs are available during the May intake.

Toronto Metropolitan University’s varied range of programs for international students has tuition fees varying by faculty and program. The Toronto Metropolitan University costs include both tuition fees and ancillary charges. To secure their admission, international students are required to pay a tuition deposit via the Student Center on MyServiceHub. For every offer of admission issued, the deposit confirmation date is specified in the offer letter.

Common FAQs

If a candidate has completed relevant graduate courses at a recognized academic institution without having those courses contribute to a conferred degree, they may be considered for credit transfer towards fulfilling Toronto Metropolitan University’s Graduate degree requirements.

The application fee for each program is CAD 110 and for MBA programs, it is CAD 150. All application fees are non-refundable.

Applicants may apply to a maximum of three programs. A separate application fee must be paid for each program to which an application is submitted.

The TMU office works with the Toronto Met community to identify and support students who may be experiencing distress. Staff members reach out to such students to offer appropriate assistance and make referrals to relevant on-campus or community resources. Members of the university community are encouraged to contact this office whenever there is a concern regarding a student’s well-being.

Applicants are required to upload all available final and interim/midterm academic results at the time of application submission. These transcripts must present a complete academic record, including the name of the institution, the applicant’s name, course titles and codes, credit values, the grading scheme, and grades received. If available, courses in which the applicant is currently enrolled should also be included.
