Intakes

The University of Ottawa offers three intakes for international students: one major and two minor intakes. International applicants need to apply several months in advance, as some competitive programs have specific deadlines.

The primary intake in September offers the widest range of programs, covering 114 Graduate and 173 Undergraduate programs.

The January intake includes 51 Graduate and 42 Undergraduate programs, while the May intake offers 27 Graduate programs exclusively.

University of Ottawa fees for international students is lower as compared to other Universities. It varies based on full-time or part-time status, level of study, and program selection. Depending on the program and course load, tuition fees may be charged per unit or as a flat fee. For Graduate programs, enrolling in 6 or more units qualifies as full-time, while for Undergraduate programs, students enrolled in 12 or more units per term are considered full-time. 

Once a level of study is selected, the first discipline within the chosen program determines the applicable tuition fees. Furthermore, students pursuing double degrees or joint honours should select the option that includes both disciplines.

Scholarships Available

The University of Ottawa, Canada scholarship program is one of the most generous in the country, supporting students through both merit-based and need-based funding. Scholarships are awarded for academic excellence, while bursaries cater to students with financial needs.

Admission Requirements

The University of Ottawa requirements for international students vary among the courses. It offers flexible pathways for applicants, including those who may not meet the prerequisite requirements for Master's programs. Through qualifying programs, students can gain the necessary knowledge for admission, with options available for both full-time and part-time study. 

Applicants who do not meet the minimum average for highly competitive programs may still be considered for related fields of study. Additionally, Indian students can check specific admission requirements for both Master’s and Bachelor’s programs here.  

✅ A four-year Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification with a minimum average of 70% (B grade). 

✅ IELTS: Overall score of 6.5, with 6.5 in writing and no section below 6. 
✅ TOEFL iBT: Total score of 84, with 24 in writing and no section below 20. 
✅ PTE Academic: Overall score of 60, with no section below 60 
✅ DET: Minimum overall score of 120.

Common FAQs

The U-Pass is a transit pass that offers students unlimited access to Ottawa’s public transportation. Eligible students are automatically enrolled, with the fee included in tuition.

The Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW) is just 15-20 minutes away. Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) is about two hours away, accessible by bus or car.

Students can use OC Transpo buses, the O-Train station on campus, or bike along the Ottawa River Pathway. Ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft and nearby car rentals are also available.

Students must enroll in 3-5 courses per term, depending on their program. Academic advisors or the Registrar’s Office can provide support if needed.
