Academic Requirements

English Language Requirements

VIA University College Admission requirements at the Horsens and Herning campuses depend on the specific program selected. Along with academic qualifications, students are also expected to meet English language proficiency through tests like IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, or Cambridge English exams. &nbsp;Those who do not meet certain admission conditions may still be able to apply under special permission. However, this option is not available to students who do not meet the language proficiency criteria. The VIA University College Application Process is hassle-free and follows the same steps for both the Horsens and Herning campuses. Indian students can find the admission criteria here.

The cost of studying at VIA University College in Horsens and Herning depends on the specific program selected. Some programs may also involve additional expenses during the course of study. &nbsp;Students receive payment invoices via email, and all fees are required be paid in Danish Krone (DKK). The first semester fee can be paid through a bank transfer, while payments for subsequent semesters can be made either through international transfers or from a Danish bank account.

Life at  VIA University College, Denmark

Being awarded a standby place means the student is placed on a waiting list for the study program they have applied to. If an admitted applicant decides not to take up their place or a seat becomes available for any reason, it may be offered to a candidate from the standby list depending on availability and priority.

1. What does it mean to be awarded a standby place at VIA University College?

All official written communication between students and the admissions office is conducted through the online platform nemStudie.dk. This platform also allows students to track the status and progress of their application.

2. How do students communicate with the university?

Holidays and academic breaks differ slightly depending on the study program but generally follow a consistent pattern. The autumn break lasts for one week in October. The Christmas break begins after students submit their semester projects and continues until the first weekday in January. A winter break is given for one week in February. Easter break covers the three days leading into the Easter holiday. The summer break typically extends through July and August.

3. What is the duration of holidays or breaks at VIA University College?

Yes, it is important for students moving to Denmark to have appropriate insurance coverage. Insurance policies in Denmark may differ from what students are used to in their home countries. It is recommended to ensure that you are adequately covered in case of illness, accidents, or other emergencies during your stay.

4. Is insurance mandatory for students in Denmark?

Yes, students who have completed part or all of a higher education program elsewhere can apply for a credit transfer at VIA University College. Each request is reviewed on a case by case basis to determine whether the previous coursework meets the requirements for the intended program.

5. Can students transfer credits from another institution to VIA University College?

VIA University College Intakes are offered once a year, with August being the primary and only major intake at the institution.

The August intake is considered the main admission cycle, during which all courses are open for application. As VIA University College Intakes are limited to this single entry point annually, prospective students are encouraged to prepare their applications in advance to meet the deadlines.

VIA University College, Horsens and Herning Campus

VIA University College, founded in 2008 through the merger of several higher education institutions, is one of six University Colleges in Denmark and serves the Central Denmark Region. It hosts over 29,000 students and features more than 40 Degree Programs, including 9 that are taught in English to cater to international students. Around 2,200 faculty and staff support both teaching and research across 10 dedicated centers. Known for its double Degree Programs, VIA also delivers short-term and custom courses to study in Denmark and internationally. &nbsp;As Denmark’s Largest University College, VIA spans eight state-of-the-art campuses located throughout the Central Denmark Region, including cities such as Aarhus, Horsens, Herning, Viborg, Holstebro, Randers, and Silkeborg. Campus Horsens features a modern learning environment with a strong international presence, housed in newly constructed facilities. Meanwhile, Campus Herning stands out as one of Scandinavia’s leading academic hubs for Design and Business Education. Located in central Horsens, this Campus hosts approximately 2,900 students, nearly half from international backgrounds, fostering a diverse academic environment. Around 330 experienced employees support a wide range of programs taught in English and Danish. &nbsp;Campus Herning hosts more than 950 students, supported by a team of 120 employees. Recognized for its strong focus on vocational and higher education, the campus features programs in both English and Danish, maintaining a balance between practical skills and academic knowledge. Both campuses feature modern facilities and a dedicated support system covering key student needs such as housing, transportation, career guidance, and more, ensuring a well-rounded experience both inside and outside the classroom.

Each year, a limited number of VIA University College Scholarships are available for international full-degree students across all campuses, including Horsens and Herning. These scholarships can cover up to two full semesters, but new students are not eligible to apply. Only those who have completed at least one year of studies at VIA can be considered. Selection is based on a defined set of criteria. The scholarship may either cover the full tuition fee or offer a partial reduction. VIA University College nominates recipients.

At VIA University College’s Horsens and Herning campuses, the Student Council and Student Counsellors play key roles in managing student life and support services.

At Campus Horsens, students have access to various facilities such as a library, bookstore, canteen, mentoring program, and IT support. Campus Herning offers amenities including a lunchroom, workshops, an academic supplies boutique, a trend studio, a library, and a bookshop.

Campus Facilities

Campus Horsens hosts a vibrant social scene with events ranging from salsa classes and Counter-Strike tournaments to film screenings and Photoshop sessions. The Student Council also organizes student parties and coordinates key campus activities. Campus Herning features activities such as community dinners, dance sessions, and a party committee, creating regular opportunities for students to connect beyond academics.

Student Engagement Activities

All VIA University College Campuses, including Horsens and Herning, assist students in finding housing, with accommodation options located conveniently near the institute.

Accommodation

At Horsens Campus, students can meet one-on-one with the student chaplain and psychologist. These sessions are confidential, and all appointments are free of charge.

Health and Wellness

VIA University College Courses are available across both the Horsens and Herning campuses, offering students a diverse and practical academic experience. Campus Horsens features more than 27 study programs, many delivered in English, spanning key areas such as Engineering, Business, Nursing, and Construction. &nbsp;At Campus Herning, the focus is on Vocational Education, with programs including the Academy Profession (AP) Degree, Bachelor's top-up courses, and exchange opportunities.
