Overview

The University College, Liverpool, opened its doors in 1882 with the intention of equipping locals with degrees in Arts, Science, and other subjects. The college joined the federal Victoria University in 1884, which granted it authority to award recognized degrees through the federal university system.

 

In 1903, the institution was granted a Royal Charter, officially transforming University College, Liverpool, into the University of Liverpool. Its journey took a historic turn when it became a founding member of the prestigious Russel Group in 1994. This membership cemented its position among the UK's leading research-intensive institutions and highlighted its academic excellence, innovation, and impactful research. Today, the University has multiple campuses around the world, one of which is located in Bengaluru, India’s Silicon Valley.

 

The University of Liverpool, Bengaluru Campus is the first fully operational campus of a Russell Group University in India. It is approved under India’s National Education Policy (NEP 2020). This will mark a significant turning point in India's educational landscape as the country continues to emerge as a globally powerful hub for innovation, research, and academic excellence.

 

With the opening of this campus in India, the university aims to strengthen cross-border education collaboration between India and the UK, allowing students to earn a globally recognized UK degree while studying in India’s technology and start-up hub. At the campus, students receive the same academic standards and rigorous curriculum as at the main campus.

 

At the Bengaluru Campus, students will engage in a fully flexible, integrated learning environment with smart classrooms, research and innovation areas, collaboration centers, specialized labs, and access to Bloomberg terminals. With its strategic location in Bengaluru's Alembic City, Whitefield offers a curriculum shaped by partnerships with major corporations, providing excellent employment prospects. With the international campus in India, UK students can learn and explore in India, while India-based students can spend a semester at the home campus or transfer effortlessly in the final year.

Intakes

After the official announcement of the University of Liverpool, Bengaluru Campus in May 2025 and the final Letter of Approval from the Government of India in June 2026, the university will commence its academic operations in September 2026.

 

The initial September intake at the University of Liverpool, Bengaluru Campus was strategically planned to align with Liverpool’s global academic calendar. This will keep both campuses synchronized and align with the primary intake cycle of the 2026-27 academic year.

The academic programs at the University of Liverpool, Bengaluru Campus, will begin with the initial September Intake, during which students can choose from 8 programs for either master’s or bachelor’s degrees.

Cost to Study

One of the major benefits that students get when they study at the University of Liverpool, Bengaluru Campus is the cost-effectiveness. While the tuition fees and living expenses at the UK campus are relatively high, the India campus makes them much more affordable by reducing costs for both Indian and international students.

 

This means that although students pay reduced tuition fees and low living expenses, they receive the same education as at the UK campus. The two master’s programs offered at the university last for 12 months, which further adds to the affordability and allows faster entry to the job market.

Admission Requirement

The admission requirements at the University of Liverpool, Bengaluru Campus are based on a combination of factors to ensure academic equivalency and holistic evaluation. The university campus ensures that deserving candidates have access to a world-class education through which they can grow and prepare for global opportunities.

 

Although the eligibility criteria represent the minimum academic requirements that students must meet, final admission decisions are based on academic performance, the Statement of Purpose (SOP), the Virtual Interview, and any Extraordinary Achievements. 

✅Students should have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field with a minimum 55% and an overall aggregate of 60%.

✅Students are required to have a minimum 75% marks in Class XII English CBSE/CISCE/Cambridge) or equivalent IB/IGCSE scores. 
✅Scores of English language proficiency tests like IELTS or TOEFL iBT may be required in a few cases. 

✅Students should have a minimum 75% overall aggregate in 4 core subjects and a minimum 60% in Mathematics in class X in any acceptable Indian Boards, including CBSE, ISC, or State Boards. 
✅For students applying with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) qualification, a minimum of 32 points overall is required for bachelor's degree admission. 
✅A Levels: Applicants with A-Level qualifications must achieve a minimum of ABB across three A-Level subjects. They must also meet the University's Mathematics and English language requirements specified for their chosen program.

✅Students are required to have a minimum 70% marks in Class XII English from CBSE, ISC, or State Boards. 
✅For students applying with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) qualification, they are required to have an accepted IB or Cambridge English qualification as per the university.

Student Essential Services

As the University of Liverpool Bengaluru campus will commence its operations in September, students can expect to get the same facilities offered at the UK campus. Their services will ensure a supportive learning environment for students at all levels of study. Although the university is yet to roll out all their student services, students can still get access to health and wellness, and academic support at the campus. 

Most of the teaching faculty at the Bengaluru campus will be from the UK campus and the international network. This will give students a truly international experience in India. In addition, students get academic guidance and support throughout the program, access to digital learning tools, and smart classes. The Bengaluru campus is equipped with advanced laboratories and technology-enabled learning spaces to foster better learning and research. 

At the Bengaluru campus, students will get access to mental health and wellbeing support. This service will include support for disability, student welfare and guidance, and financial and money management advice.
