Shannon College of Hotel Management is Ireland’s only dedicated Hotel Management College, proudly established in 1951. It is a recognised college of the University of Galway, and all qualifications awarded are by the University. For Undergraduate studies, the fee remains the same for the first, third, and fourth years, with a slight variation in the second year. Admission Requirement

Admission requirements for Shannon College of Hotel Management differ based on the applicant’s country of origin. All candidates whose first language is not English need to provide valid proof of English language proficiency. Applicants who want to join MSc programmes need to have, or expect to have before the course starts, a Bachelor's degree with at least 60% marks or an equivalent qualification in a related subject.

✅ IELTS – A minimum overall band score of 6.5 is required, with no individual band less than 6.0.
✅ TOEFLiBT – A total score of 88 is necessary for consideration.
✅ PTE Academic – An overall score of 62 is required, with at least 61 in each component.
 

Students need to achieve a minimum Grade H5 in two subjects and pass in four other subjects at O6/H7 level in the Leaving Certificate. These must include Irish, English, another language, Mathematics, and any two additional recognised subjects.
Entrance interviews are conducted in April and July, as the course does not have restricted entry.

Placements

At Shannon College of Hotel Management, students benefit from two valuable work placements during their studies. In Year 2, students undertake a 12-month professional placement at leading Irish and European hotels, reinforcing their training and gaining practical industry experience.
 

In Year 4, students begin a nine-month trainee management work placement with international hotel companies, often leading to management development programs or direct employment at properties worldwide. Students complete a Viva Voce examination before graduation.
