Overview

The University of Galway is a prestigious Irish University with a history spanning over 175 years. Started in 1845 as Queen’s College Galway, the University officially opened in 1849 with a cohort of 68 students. Since then, it has grown exponentially in size, influence, and reputation. The National University of Ireland Galway or NUI Galway was again renamed as the University of Galway in 2022.

Intakes

Intakes in Ireland align with the standard academic schedule and offer students the opportunity to engage fully in the University's comprehensive orientation and induction activities. 

Marking the commencement of the academic year, the primary intake at the University of Galway is September for all Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs. The online application system opens in early October of the previous year to accept applications for entry to the following September. Scholarships

The University of Galway supports high-calibre students from around the globe by offering numerous merit-based scholarships. They are intended for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.
 

Most of the University of Galway scholarships are awarded automatically based on academic performance and personal statements, excluding the need for a separate application process.
 

Students applying for this University are also eligible for the Government of Ireland – International Education Scholarships. This Government-specific scholarship in Ireland requires a separate application process; the application deadline is between first week to third week of March.

Admission Requirement

Admission requirements at the University of Galway vary depending on the program and the level of study for international students. International (Non-EU) students for Postgraduate and Undergraduate courses need to complete the submissions through the University of Galway's online application system.  Certain programs may require interviews as part of the selection process.

✅ Indian students need a Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 60-65% in a related subject area from a recognised University.

✅ IELTS: An overall band score of 6.5 with no band less than 6 is accepted.
✅ TOEFL iBT: An overall score of 88 is accepted. 
✅ PTE: An overall score of 61 with no bands less than 50 is accepted. 

 

Note: The university may grant an English language waiver based on a student's 12th-grade English scores or on the basis of a Medium of Instruction Letter, depending on the education board or Indian University, respectively.
 

✅ Indian students need to have a minimum of 60-85% from a recognised institution in Grade 12. Subjects must include English, Mathematics, another language, and two more subjects.
