Overview

Founded in 1892, UCOL has a rich history spanning over 130 years of dedicated service to education and stands out among colleges in New Zealand for its quality learning. Today, UCOL proudly serves more than 5,000 students with the support of 400 staff members across its four main campuses. These campuses are located in Manawatū (Palmerston North), Whanganui, Wairarapa (Masterton), and Horowhenua (Levin).

Intake at The Universal College of Learning (UCOL)

The Universal College of Learning intakes are offered twice a year, providing flexibility for international students to begin their academic journey at a time that suits them best. Once students have identified the programme they wish to pursue, they can start the application process right away. 

There are numerous courses available for PG Diploma and Bachelor's programs in both intakes. However, only one Master’s program is available for the February intake, and one PG Diploma course is offered in the July intake.

Cost to Study at The Universal College of Learning (UCOL)

The cost to study at The Universal College of Learning is carefully reviewed each year to reflect inflation and currency exchange rates, ensuring fairness for all students. Once a student’s visa is approved in principle, they are required to pay tuition for the first year, or the full course if it’s less than a year long.
 

The fees offer great value and include GST, airport pickup, registration and exam fees, access to campus facilities, and the New Zealand Export Levy. UCOL also ensures student well-being by requiring valid medical and travel insurance for the full duration of study.

Admission Requirements

Meeting the admission requirements for The Universal College of Learning is essential for all applicants. However, students who hold international qualifications, relevant work experience, or prior tertiary education may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This means they could receive credit exemptions or complete their program in a shorter duration. For standard admissions, Indian students can check the eligibility criteria here. 

Students need to hold a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification in Art and Design with a minimum of 55%. 
A portfolio of work and a research proposal are also required.

✅ TOEFL iBT: An overall score of 79 with no band less than 21
✅ IELTS: An overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6
 

Applicants need to have completed Grade 12 (CBSE or ICSE Board) with a minimum of 65% across four academic subjects for graduate diplomas, a relevant bachelors degree with 55% is required.

✅ TOEFL iBT: An overall score of 60 with no band less than 18

If a student forgets their password or encounters a technical issue, they can visit the Learning Hub or library and speak to the on-duty Computer Support Assistant. It’s important to carry a valid student ID. 

Printing facilities are available in libraries, computer labs, and studios across campus. Students need to top up their printing credit using the Student Information Centre or online portal. If they face any issues, such as low credit, paper jams, or empty trays, the nearest Computer Support Assistant can help resolve the problem.

If a course doesn’t appear on Moodle, it usually means the student hasn't yet been added to the course list by the lecturer. In such cases, students are advised to directly contact their lecturer via email to ensure they are enrolled on the platform.

Yes, UCOL offers parking facilities on campus. Parking permits are available; some are free, while others may involve a nominal fee. For visitors, parking permits can be arranged through Facilities Management.
 

Each time there is an update or change to a student’s account, an invoice or statement is automatically generated. Students are encouraged to review these carefully, as any outstanding balance beyond 90 days may be forwarded to a debt collection agency.
