Overview

Founded in 1990, University West (Högskolan Väst) is a modern Public Research Institution located in the urban heart of Trollhättan, Västra Götaland, Sweden. This area is renowned for its industrial heritage and dynamic film and aerospace sectors. Since consolidating all operations in Trollhättan in 2008, it has grown to serve approximately 14,000  students and 740  staff across four departments.

Intakes

University West operates on a structured academic year divided into two 20-week semesters, supporting both major and minor intake sessions in a streamlined and international-friendly calendar. With a varied course availability, clear deadlines, structured semesters, and purposeful introduction events, University West intakes support a seamless and well-oriented experience for international students eager to study in Sweden.

The primary intake at University West begins in late August or early September, aligning with the start of the Autumn semester. Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs are predominantly available through the August intake, delivering a full suite of English-taught degree options across Engineering, Business & IT, Health Sciences, and Social disciplines. Applications open mid-October of the previous year and remain open until mid-April.

A secondary intake begins in mid-January, with a limited selection of programs accepting new enrolments. A limited number of Master’s and exchange programs start in the January intake, designed for students requiring flexibility or mid-year entry. The application window generally opens in June and closes by mid-October.

Cost to Study

The tuition deposit norm requires paying the first semester fee before confirming status and initiating the residence permit process.

Admission Requirement

University West in Trollhättan maintains a rigorous and structured admission requirement to ensure that all incoming international students are thoroughly prepared for its English-taught degree programs. Each Bachelor’s and Master's program has clearly defined general and program-specific entry requirements. The application process can be completed in three steps. Starting with the online submission via the national portal, then uploading of all required documentation, and payment of the application fee. ✅Applicants must hold either a four-year Bachelor's degree or a three-year Bachelor's degree followed by a two-year relevant Master's degree, with a minimum aggregate score of 55% from a recognised university or institution.
✅ Specific subject-related prerequisites may apply depending on the chosen program of study. 

✅ IELTS Academic: An overall score of 6.5, with no band lower than 5.5, is needed. 
✅ TOEFL iBT: A minimum overall score of 90 is needed. 
✅ PTE Academic: An overall score of 62 is needed.
