Overview

Founded in 1495, the University of Aberdeen known for being the third-oldest University in Scotland and the fifth-oldest in the UK. With over 525 years of academic excellence, it has grown from serving the north-east of Scotland to establishing a significant global presence in higher education. Intakes

The University of Aberdeen offers two intakes for Postgraduate and Undergraduate degrees. However, for its other courses, such as short courses and online degrees, admissions are open throughout the year.

This is the major intake. Applicants are recommended to apply as early as possible, preferably by August.

This is the minor intake. In this intake, a few Postgraduate courses, including Law, Humanities, and Engineering-related programs, are available. Applications must be submitted by December.

Scholarships Available

The University of Aberdeen offers a variety of UK scholarships for international students based on merit, country, and chosen course. For Postgraduate programs, scholarships of up to £8,000 are available, while Undergraduate students can receive up to £6,000 per year.
 

The University also offers tuition fee discounts for Postgraduate Research programs. To qualify, students must enroll in a full-time, on-campus program and should not be receiving external scholarships or other University of Aberdeen scholarships, except those awarded by the University of Aberdeen Development Trust.

Admission Requirements

The University of Aberdeen admission requirement vary based on the chosen program. For international students, Pre-Sessional Academic English courses are available to enhance language proficiency before starting degree programs. They help students adjust to University life, connect with peers, and remove the language requirement from their offer. ✅ Applicants are generally required to have a Bachelor's degree with a minimum score ranging between 55% and 65%, depending on the program. 

✅ IELTS: Overall score of 6.5, with at least 6.0 in writing and no band less than 5.5
✅ TOEFL iBT: Overall score of 90, with minimum scores of 17 in Listening, 18 in Reading, 20 in Speaking, and 21 in Writing. 
✅ PTE: Overall score of 62, with no individual section below 59
✅ DET: Overall score of 120, with section-wise minimum scores of 95 in Listening, Reading, Speaking, and 105 in Writing. 

*Note : The Medium of Instruction (MOI) Certificate is accepted from selected Universities only.

Students Essential Services

Common FAQs

Applicants can apply for multiple programs but may only accept one offer. Upon acceptance, all other applications are withdrawn. Program changes after acceptance can be requested by contacting the admissions team.

The requirement for an ATAS certificate, if applicable, will be mentioned in the applicant’s offer letter.

Usually, 50% of the tuition fees are payable during online registration at the beginning of the term.

After submitting an application, the University sends an email acknowledgement. The Admissions Co-Ordinator and Officer review the application. Applicants are notified via email if additional documents are required and can track progress through the Applicant Portal.

Applicants can request deferral using the Deferral Form before the application deadline. Updated information in the Applicant Portal is essential. Academic and English requirements may change, so reassessment may be necessary, potentially leading to a new offer with revised conditions.
