Overview

Founded in 1921 in the aftermath of World War I, the University of Leicester is a public research university in Leicester, England. Initially established as University College, it gained university status in 1957.  Created as a tribute to those who lost their lives in the war, it serves as a lasting memorial. The university's motto, “So that they may have,” reflects its dedication to advancing knowledge through research and education. Its sole campus in Leicester features a diverse range of 20th-century architecture, though its oldest building dates back to 1837. The skyline is marked by three distinctive, towering structures from the 1960s: the Engineering Building, the Attenborough Tower, and the Charles Wilson Building.
