Overview

Founded in 1926, the University of Reading is one of the leading universities in the UK. Before gaining university status, it functioned as an extension college of the University of Oxford in the 19th century. The University of Reading is known for its award-winning campuses: Whiteknights, Greenlands, and London Road. Its main campus in Whiteknights covers 130 hectares of scenic parkland and has won 14 Green Flag Award consecutively. London Road, a historic campus, recently underwent a £30 million upgrade. Greenlands, located by the River Thames, houses one of Europe’s top business schools and modern facilities.
 

Students choose the University of Reading UK for its strong global presence, with a business school in Johannesburg and an overseas campus in Malaysia. It also operates the Thames Valley Science Park, home to 70 high-tech companies, near the Whiteknights campus. The University’s student population is 27,000, of which more than 5000 are international students from 165 different countries. With more than 4,000 academic and professional staff, it is also one of the largest employers in Berkshire.

Intakes

The University of Reading, UK intakes are offered in September and February. Students can choose their preferred intake based on the availability of their chosen course. The academic year for Postgraduate and Undergraduate degrees is divided into two semesters. Each semester lasts 15 weeks, with 12 weeks dedicated to teaching and 3 weeks allocated for assessments.

This major intake accommodates various study levels, including Postgraduate Taught, Postgraduate Research, Undergraduate, Joint Degrees, Diplomas, etc.

This is a limited intake offering a select number of courses. Currently, mostly Law courses are available under this intake.

Cost to Study at University of Reading, UK

The University of Reading cost for postgraduate programs are in Standard Band 1 and Band 2 levels. For part-time students, the fee is typically 50% of the standard full-time rate or calculated on a pro-rata basis. Most postgraduate courses require students to pay a deposit to secure their place. For undergraduate degrees, the University of Reading fees are usually paid in two installments. The tuition fee remains fixed at the same rate for the standard duration of the course.

Scholarships Available

University of Reading offers scholarships for Postgraduate, Undergraduate, Research Programs, and International Foundation Programs. Postgraduate scholarships are provided directly by the university or funded by sponsors and donors, with a total value of over £2 million. For Undergraduate students, more than 300 University of Reading, UK scholarships are available, offering grants of up to £6,000 per year for up to 4 years of full-time study. Additionally, under International Foundation Programs, IFP Country and IFP Ambassador Scholarships are provided to support students.

Admission Requirement

International students need to meet University of Reading admission general eligibility criteria for Postgraduate programs. Students applying for Undergraduate level need to meet the A-level academic qualifications, which may differ based on the course and degree. At the Undergraduate level, students whose qualifications are not equivalent to the UK A-levels might need to complete a foundation or access program. Students can also get English Language Proficiency waiver for both the level of studies based on the 12th English marks.

For postgraduate applicants, there is no application fee. For undergraduate applicants, applications are submitted through UCAS, which has an application fee of £28.50.

The deposit required for international students is £2,000.

Interviews are generally not required, except for select program, where an academic interview is necessary.

Undergraduate students should be registered for 120 credits per academic year. Full-time postgraduate students are required to register for 180 credits per academic year.
