Overview

Ohio University is the oldest public university in Ohio and is located in Athens. It was established following Ohio's statehood in 1803. On February 18, 1804, the Ohio General Assembly enacted legislation to create what is now known as ‘Ohio University’. The university welcomed its first students in 1808, marking the beginning of its long-standing academic tradition.
 

In addition to its main residential campus, it operates several regional campuses, including those in Chillicothe, Eastern, Lancaster, Southern, and Zanesville. These campuses extend the university's academic reach, providing diverse learning opportunities across the state.
