Intakes

The State University of New York at New Paltz offers two intakes for international students. For Graduate studies, applicants are required to complete and submit an online application. For Undergraduate level, students can apply through the Common Application or the SUNY Application to pursue their studies at SUNY New Paltz. Students are encouraged to apply early to facilitate timely review and receive decisions sooner.

All Graduate and Undergraduate programs are available; however, some programs like MSBA and MFA are only available in the Fall.

Cost of Studying at State University of New York at New Paltz

At the State University of New York at New Paltz fee payments are done on a semester basis. Students receive their fee invoice after course registration. A full-time student is one taking 12 or more credit hours per semester, while a part-time student takes 11 or fewer.
 

Students living off-campus or at home are not charged for room and board by the University. However, personal expenses such as rent, meals, books, transportation, and supplies may vary for each student.

Scholarships Available

The State University of New York at New Paltz scholarships are for highly qualified international applicants who apply for Graduate studies. Financial need is also considered for some awards. The University provides fellowships and scholarships that may include in-state tuition benefits for eligible students.
 

For Undergraduate studies, SUNY New Paltz proudly offers the #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship, aimed at recognizing talented international students who demonstrate a commitment to advancing intercultural understanding. Each year, the University selects two first-year international students to receive a renewable scholarship that covers 50% of their tuition.

Admission Requirement

To secure admission at the State University of New York at New Paltz, students need to meet the required academic qualifications. In addition to academic credentials, Graduate applicants are often required to submit letters of recommendation and essays, depending on the program. 

Undergraduate applicants need to submit an essay, along with at least one letter of recommendation from a guidance counsellor or academic teacher. Participation in extracurricular activities is also considered. Indian students can refer to the specific entry requirements for SUNY New Paltz here.

Applicants need to possess a  Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. 

GRE or GMAT scores are optional; however, some programs may require them. 

✅ IELTS: Accepted score range is 6.0 to 7.0
✅ TOEFL iBT: Required score range is 74 to 85
✅ PTE: A score between 50 and 57 is essential
✅ Duolingo: Accepted score range is 110 to 130

Applicants are required to have successfully completed secondary school with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. 

SAT or ACT scores are optional for international applicants.

✅ IELTS: An overall score of 6.5 is required.
✅ PTE Academic: An overall score of 58 is required.

Student Essential Services

SUNY New Paltz offers a warm and welcoming environment for international students. The Center for International Programs provides dedicated support throughout. From academic guidance and accommodation assistance to health services and student engagement, the University offers all the resources you need to thrive both academically and personally.

The University conducts informative workshops on OPT (Optional Practical Training) and CPT (Curricular Practical Training) for F-1 students. These sessions guide students on eligibility, application procedures, travel considerations, and employment-related tips.

SUNY New Paltz offers on-campus housing through 14 residence halls, providing a safe and supportive living environment. Usually, two or three students share a room. Each hall is supervised by a full-time Resident Director and supported by Resident Assistants.
