University of Massachusetts Lowell intakes take place twice a year: Fall and Spring. The Fall intake attracts many international students because it includes exclusive opportunities.

This  intake offers a wide range of courses and scholarships.

Most Graduate and Undergraduate programs open for enrollment in the Spring intake.

Cost of Studying at University of Massachusetts Lowell

The cost to study in UMass Lowell is considered affordable for both Graduate and Undergraduate Programs. At the Graduate level, international students are required to pay tuition along with additional fees such as the Technology Fee, Student Activity Fee, International Fee, and Health Insurance. For Undergraduate students, beyond tuition and standard mandatory fees, expenses also include Housing and a Meal Plan. To ease financial transactions, the university offers multiple payment options, and international students are not charged any transaction fees for these services.

Scholarship Available

UMass Lowell Scholarships are available at both Graduate and Undergraduate levels, supporting international students through various funding options. Each year, it awards more than $211 million in financial aid. The average need-based package exceeds $19,995, with over 94% of need typically met.
 

For Graduate students, the university extends fellowship and assistantship opportunities to those who are accepted. In addition, several scholarship options are open to international students pursuing Master's degrees. Undergraduate students are considered for merit-based scholarships at the time of admission. Eligibility is determined automatically during the acceptance process through matriculation.

Admission Requirement

Admissions at UMass Lowell follow distinct processes for Graduate and Undergraduate applicants. Graduate applicants are typically required to complete the official Graduate Admission application and submit proof of English language proficiency through accepted test scores. Undergraduate applicants can apply using the UMass Lowell (UML) Application, the Common App, or the Coalition for College platform.
 

To support international students who meet academic requirements but do not yet fulfill the English language criteria, UMass Lowell collaborates with ASC English. This support is available for both Graduate and Undergraduate admissions. Indian students can find the admission requirements here.

✅ An Undergraduate Degree from a recognized institution with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
✅ International academic transcripts might need to be evaluated by an external agency, like the Center for Educational Documentation, Inc. or World Education Services (WES).
✅ Candidates with 15 years of prior education are considered eligible, provided the degree-granting institution holds an NAAC 'A' grade or higher and the student has achieved at least a second division.

✅ DET: Score between 115 and 135

Some graduate programs require additional test scores:

✅ Completion of Standard XII (High School) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
✅ Certain programs may require higher scores in specific subjects.

Proof of English proficiency is mandatory for non-native speakers, accepted through:

The Career Services & Cooperative Education Center at UMass Lowell supports all Graduate students through personalized guidance.
