Overview

The University of Utah, known as ‘the U,’ is the State's oldest Institution of higher education. Established in 1850, it was originally named the University of Deseret and adopted its current name in 1892. The University relocated to its present campus in Salt Lake City in 1900.
 

The University's campus spans 1,534 acres in an urban setting, providing a vibrant environment for its multicultural academic community. The University at present has nearly 36,000 students on campus with international students belonging to 106 countries. The University of Utah’s acceptance rate exceeds 80%. Over its history, the University of Utah has been affiliated with 22 Rhodes Scholars, 4 Nobel Prize winners, and 3 Turing Award recipients.

In FY 2024, it secured $691 million in research funding. The University’s academic programs across various disciplines are organized into 18 Colleges and schools, containing over 100 departments. Intakes

The University of Utah runs on a semester-based academic calendar, offering three primary intakes annually. This tri-semester intake at the University of Utah, USA, provides flexibility for international Undergraduate applicants to commence their studies at a time that aligns with their academic and personal plans.

The Fall intake is the most comprehensive, with nearly all Undergraduate programs open for enrolment. It is the preferred term for students aiming to maximise course availability and participate in the full spectrum of campus activities.

Scholarships

The University of Utah supports its international Undergraduate students through a variety of scholarships, aimed at recognizing academic excellence, community engagement, and providing financial assistance during economic hardships. The International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) awarded nearly $67,000 in scholarships for the recent academic year.
 

The University of Utah scholarship requirements vary according to the type. Types of scholarships at the University include Merit-Based Scholarships, Department-Specific Scholarships, Need-Based Scholarships and Externally Funded Scholarships.
 

The University of Utah’s Merit Scholarships expect students to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA for recurring awards. Applications are accepted in each semester; the scholarship cannot be applied retroactively or for future semesters.

Admission Requirement

The University of Utah maintains a comprehensive and inclusive admissions process for international students seeking Undergraduate degrees. Applications are reviewed based on the academic history, language proficiency and extracurricular activities.

Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA equivalent to 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in their high school coursework.

Submission of SAT or ACT scores is optional.
