Intakes

The Institute offers a planned academic calendar with three distinct intakes. These Virginia Tech Language and Culture intakes align with Virginia Tech's semester system, ensuring a unified integration into the University's academic framework.

As the primary and most comprehensive intake, the Fall semester commences in late August and concludes in mid-December. This period accommodates most of the programs, including the AdvantageVT Pathway Program, Intensive English Program, and English Essentials. Students enrolling in the Fall benefit from a full-term experience.

Serving as a secondary admission period, the Spring semester spans from mid-January to early May. This intake is ideal for students seeking to commence their studies at the start of the calendar year. Programs available during this term include selected AdvantageVT Pathway Program, Intensive English Program, and English Essentials.

The Summer semester, running from late May to early August, offers select programs. While not all courses are available during this term, students can enroll in the Intensive English Program and English Essentials to enhance their language proficiency.

Cost to Study

The Virginia Tech Language and Culture Institute offers a range of programs, each with specific tuition structures designed to support international students in achieving their academic goals.
 

To secure a seat in the Advantage VT program, admitted students are required to pay a $500 deposit within 10 days of receiving their acceptance. This deposit ensures the student's place in the program and is applied toward the total Virginia Tech Language and Culture Institute fees.
 

The Bursar's Office generates billing statements monthly, detailing the tuition and fees due. Full payment is required prior to the commencement of classes each semester.

Admissions

The Institute promotes academic excellence and cross-cultural understanding through various courses. The Virginia Tech Language and Culture Institute UG and PG pathway admission requirements differ for international students. ✅ Indian students need to have an Undergraduate degree with a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA). 

✅ Submission of GRE or GMAT scores is not required for admission.

For One-Semester Pathway
✅ TOEFL iBT: A minimum overall score of 80, with no section score below 16 is accepted. 
✅ IELTS: An overall band score of 6.5, with no individual band lower than 5.5 is accepted. 
For Two-Semester Pathway
TOEFL iBT: A minimum score of 74 is accepted. 
IELTS: An overall band score of 6.0, with no band lower than 5.0 is accepted. 
Three-Semester Pathway
TOEFL iBT: A minimum score of 65 is accepted. 
IELTS: An overall band score of 5.5 is accepted. 

Applicants must have completed Standard XII (or equivalent) with the following minimum academic performance based on their intended area of study. 
For Engineering Pathway a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale is needed. 
For Other Pathways a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is needed. 

Submission of SAT or ACT scores is not required for admission into the pathway programs.

For One-Semester Pathway
✅ TOEFL iBT: A minimum score of 78 is accepted
✅ IELTS: An overall band score of 6.5, with no band lower than 6.0 is accepted. 
✅ PTE Academic: A minimum score of 52 is accepted
✅ Duolingo English Test (DET): A minimum score of 110 is accepted
For Two-Semester Pathway
✅ TOEFL iBT: A minimum score of 74 is accepted
✅ IELTS: An overall band score of 6.0, with no band lower than 6.0 is accepted. 
✅ PTE Academic: A minimum score of 50 is accepted.
✅ Duolingo English Test (DET): A minimum score of 105 is accepted.
For Three-Semester Pathway
✅ TOEFL iBT: A minimum score of 60 is accepted.
✅ IELTS: An overall band score of 5.5, with no band lower than 5.5 is accepted. 
✅ PTE Academic: A minimum score of 44 is accepted.
✅ Duolingo English Test (DET): A minimum score of 90 is accepted.

Students who successfully complete a pathway program and fulfill the University's academic and language requirements are granted direct admission to their intended graduate program. In most cases, they are not required to reapply or take additional standardized tests, such as the GRE, GMAT, or TOEFL.

For students enrolled in the Advantage VT Undergraduate Pathway Program, the courses are credit-bearing and taught by Virginia Tech faculty. Successful completion of this program ensures direct admission into the Undergraduate or Graduate degree program.

The appropriate pathway program is determined by the student's level of academic and language preparedness. One-Semester Pathway is for students with strong academics needing minimal support. Two-Semester Pathway is for those requiring moderate academic or language assistance. Three-Semester Pathway is for students needing extensive preparation in English and academics. The Institute will assess your academic records and test scores to recommend the most suitable option.

Pathway programs provide students who do not meet direct admission criteria. It provides a smooth transition to graduate or undergraduate studies. It also increased academic and language proficiency.
